IT Support Intern

Journey’s End Refugee Services, Inc. is a refugee resettlement and immigration services provider for the Western New York Region. Journey’s End works to assist newly arriving refugees to find gainful employment and avoid dependency on social services. 

Hours Required:

10 hours per week for 3 months. Hours available between 9-5 M-F, adjustable according to school calendar and availability.

Position Description:

Journey's End Refugee Services is seeking an IT Support Intern to assist the JERS Grants and Data Director with providing IT troubleshooting support to Journey's End staff and maintaining office hardware, systems, and inventory (primarily Mac computers, some Windows computers, Filemaker databases, classroom and auditorium technology, and iPhones).

The intern will work 10 hours per week under the supervision of the Grants and Data Director but also will work closely with staff from all departments, including our resettlement, legal immigration, employment, and education programs, with the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of a local non-profit organization while supporting the agency behind the scenes.

Duties may include:

  • Assist with basic technology troubleshooting, escalating unresolved issues to IT support staff.

  • Assist with technology maintenance (running updates, installing software, tracking inventory)

  • Potential to help improve Filemaker databases UI / layouts / functionality, if interested.

  • Assist with developing clear IT related policies for the agency.

  • Providing technology trainings to staff / clients on basic IT topics including Microsoft Office, Google applications, and other topics pertinent to staff and intern's interests.

  • Other projects depending on the abilities and skills of the intern

  • Other assistance as needed

Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications and expectations:

  • Professionalism, dependability, honesty, and punctuality

  • Patience

  • Willingness to work with staff and clients with a range of technology literacy levels

  • Ability to problem solve basic IT issues (primarily on Mac computers, iPhones) and to clearly describe issues in order to escalate issues to IT staff.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • An interest in the daily functioning of non-profit organizations

  • An interest in Buffalo's refugee population

  • Prior experience with Microsoft Office and Google applications

  • Prior experience with Filemaker Pro

This is an unpaid internship. A portion of the intern's time will be dedicated to their personal educational development including a thorough training in Journey's End and its mission. Copy machine, wifi, and other tools are available. Free parking. If an interested candidate cannot commit to 10 hours per week, the position would not qualify as an internship but as a volunteer opportunity.
